It is heart wrenching
to see what had happened in Chennai Central station today morning. At around 7.00 and 7.15
AM two bomb blasts took place in Bangalore - Guwahati train within 10 minutes of its
arrival to platform no: 9, Chennai central station.
It is sad to know a
young software professional lost her life due to this ghastly act as the bomb
was placed beneath her berth and around 20 were injured.
As lot of rumors are
flying thick and fast, here are few facts.
For those who say Tamil
Nadu is not a safe place. It is quite a stretch, for those who are not aware, In
TN, last bomb blast took place at Coimbatore in 1998 which claimed 56 lives.
Before that, a bomb blast took place by accident in Meenambakkam airport in
1984. Hence Chennai is and always be a safe place compared to elsewhere in
India.
In regard to today’s
bomb blast, explosion took place within 10 minutes of its arrival and was
triggered by a timer device. As per the train schedule, train should Chennai
might not be the target. Please refer the schedule below.
It is highly unlikely
that bomb was planted in TN limits as the train halts in Jolarpettai Junction (5), Katpadi Junction (5), Arakkonam Junction (8) for the duration of only 2 minutes.
So it squarely
neutralizes the comment by the Ex- Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi saying “law
and order is deteriorating in the state” and trying to take the political
mileage out of it. If so, is he ready to accept his inability during 1998
blasts took place in Coimbatore? As per Justice Mr. GokulaKrishnan report,
numerous intelligence reports were overlooked which could have averted the
blast at that time. so the railway police should have been more vigilant in this case.
And those who are of
the view that state govt did not act swiftly after blasts. Due to general
elections, model code of conduct is still in place and the chief minister’s
powers are restricted and decisions must be taken at bureaucracy level. It is a
critical condition that is prevailing in the state.
Since birth this is the
first time I am hearing about a bomb blast in Chennai. I can assure, Chennai is
and always will be the safest place in India.
Given all these, I
sincerely appeal for calm and the guilty must be brought to book.
